Tavy Youth Group was set up in 2012 to provide a
safe environment where young people aged 8 to 17 years old and their families,
could meet to have fun and join in social activities. We are very fortunate to
be able to enjoy the facilities of a large sports hall, games room and play
barn in Brentor. This is loaned to us through an informal partnership which has
emerged with CHICKS, the national charity, who have their HQ in the village. At
present we are supported on a voluntary basis by one of their youth workers and
also by the Catalyst youth team in Tavistock, which is fantastic!
Parents
are encouraged to support us on a regular basis and we have been able to
organise a number of events with their dedicated support. This year apart from
meeting monthly we have also organised a fund-raising Breakfast Praise in July,
which raised over £400 for CHICKS, and in August some of our families joined in
with the Community Camp near Blackpool Sands in South Devon. More recently we
have just returned form our weekend residential at Buckland Chapel, Buckland
Monachorum. We invite families to join us from a wide area - at present
we welcome families from Plymouth, Gulworthy, Tavistock and Mary Tavy.
Our normal sessions are 7 – 9 pm at CHICKS, once
a month and we ask for a £1 voluntary donation.
